Flood Advisory
National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg SC
1208 AM EDT Sat Oct 10 2026

...The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued
a Flood Advisory for the following rivers in North Carolina...

Pigeon River above Old River Rd (NC 215), 1 SW Canton affecting
  Haywood County.

.Heavy rainfall from the remnants of Hurricane Isaias will result in
excessive runoff and significant rises on streams within the upper
Pigeon River watershed. Rainfall will develop overnight tonight,
intensify during the day on Saturday, and maintain intensity
overnight Saturday before tapering off by early Sunday morning.
Storm-total rainfall of 4-9 inches is expected, with isolated 10-11
inches possible, across the upper Pigeon River watershed, generally
upstream of Canton. The highest totals will occur along the Pisgah
ridge and in the Shining Rock and Middle Prong Wilderness areas
within the headwaters of the east and west forks of the Pigeon River,
respectively. While there continues to be some uncertainty regarding
the timing and amounts of the heaviest rainfall, there is enough
confidence in the current forecast that out-of-bank conditions are
likely for the Pigeon River. Therefore, a River Flood Advisory has
been issued for the reach near Canton, with a crest above Action
Stage expected Sunday morning. A rise above Action Stage will result
in nuisance, relatively shallow flooding of low-lying areas adjacent
to the Pigeon River, including farmland, woodlands, low-lying
secondary roads, greenways, parks, and other flood-prone locations.

More significant rises along the Pigeon River are possible, and those
with interests along the river are encouraged to stay weather aware
and up-to-date on the latest stream levels and forecasts at
https://water.noaa.gov/wfo/GSP. Current reasonable worst-case
scenarios are posted in the ADDITIONAL DETAILS sections below.
Forecast crests above Minor Flood Stage may result in the River Flood
Advisories being upgraded to River Flood Warnings.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If you are in the Advisory area, remain alert to possible flooding or
the possibility of the Advisory being upgraded to a Warning.

For detailed information including observed and forecast stages,
flood impacts, flood history, FEMA Flood Hazard Layers, and more,

The next statement should be issued Sunday afternoon before 1215 PM
EDT.
