The National Weather Service in El Paso Tx/Santa Teresa has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
West Central Otero County in south central New Mexico...
* Until 515 PM MDT.
* At 310 PM MDT, Slow moving thunderstorms moving into the east
slopes of the Sacramento Mountains are producing torrential
rainfall rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour. While rain may soon exit
Alamogordo, significant runoff in side canyons and arroyos is
expected.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of arroyos and creeks, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
drainage and low-lying areas.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Alamogordo, High Rolls, Mountain Park, Boles Acres, Karr Canyon,
Bug Scuttle Ranch, and Oliver Lee State Park.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain.
Arroyos, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a
matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.
