Central Otero County in south central New Mexico... * Until 645 PM MDT. * At 352 PM MDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms with torrential rainfall over parts of the southern Sacramento Mountains. Rainfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour have been observed. The heaviest rainfall has been in the area of Bug Scuffle to near Sacramento Lake South of Sunspot, and at the head of Hay Canyon and Agua Chiquita Creek. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, roads, as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Timberon, Sacramento, Sunspot, Mayhill, Weed, Hay Canyon, Cox Canyon, Benson Ridge, Miller Flats, McDonald Flats and Lower Dry Burnt Canyon. Flooding is likely to occur on the Sacramento River in and near Timberon, and Agua Chiquita Creek above Sacramento. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.
